"Get Rich Or Die Tryin’"

Curtis James Jackson III, better known as 50 Cent, is a Grammy-winning rapper, actor, and entrepreneur who’s made a significant mark in hip-hop. Born on July 6, 1975, in Queens, New York, he faced some tough times growing up but turned his life around with his debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2003). He was discovered by Eminem and Dr. Dre. His genuine storytelling and undeniable charm helped the album shoot to number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 872,000 copies in its first week and eventually snagging a 9× Platinum cert from the RIAA.

With massive hits like “In Da Club,” “Many Men (Wish Death),” and “P.I.M.P.,” 50 Cent changed the game, mixing gangsta rap with mainstream vibes. He didn’t stop at music, diving into acting with the semi-autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and building a business empire with his G-Unit brand and a big deal with Vitamin Water.

These days, 50 Cent is seen as a cultural icon who turned his struggles into success. His debut album is a classic in hip-hop history, and he keeps influencing the scene with his music, business projects, and popular TV shows like Power.

“Get Rich or Die Tryin'” features production from industry heavyweights such as Dr. Dre and Eminem, who also served as executive producers. The album blends gangsta rap with R&B influences, showcasing 50 Cent’s distinctive delivery and storytelling abilities.

Critical Reception

The album received generally favorable reviews from critics. Pitchfork noted that, despite some flaws, it offers a handful of great singles, including “In Da Club” and “P.I.M.P.,” anchored by 50 Cent’s distinctive, rolling drawl.

Our Work on "Get Rich Or Die Tryin’"

Recording Engineer; Engineering

Our lead producer and engineer at Sound Pressure Studios, Leopoldo Lopes, had the privilege of working on two standout tracks from this iconic album:

"Many Men (Wish Death)" – Recording Engineer, Engineering (vocals, samples, bass, drums)
"Back Down" – Recording Engineer, Engineering (vocals, samples)

Leopoldo Lopes worked hard to capture the energy and vibe that 50 Cent brought to these tracks. He ensured that everything — from the vocals to the instruments — was recorded and produced with top-notch quality.

"Working with 50 Cent, Eminem, Dre, and their team? Two words: intense and wild. It was a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience. Figuring out how to capture the right take at just the right moment, with all the power and intention behind it, was a real challenge  but an eye-opener. Then there were the samples and those hard-hitting drums  tons of experimenting, which was insanely cool, even if 90% of it didn't make the final cut. Another highlight was helping craft bass tracks, mostly using synths in our studio. The whole process was electric, full of creativity, and completely unforgettable."
